24 hours of emergency services for orthopaedic and neurosurgical trauma (musculo-skeletal, spine and head injuries)
Non emergency services:
Daily outpatient clinics for orthopaedic and neurosurgical patients (both general and private)
Orthopaedic services:
- Congenital conditions and deformities (Paediatric orthopaedic): Conservative treatment
and reconstruction surgery.
- Neglected trauma: Full range of reconstruction surgery.
- Orthopaedic infections (osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, tuberculosis joint and joint
infections): Preventive measurements and reconstruction surgery.
- Degeneration conditions: Full range of treatment including corrective osteomies and
joint replacement (hip and knee joints)
- Musculo-skeletal tumours: Tumour surgery including reconstructive surgery.
Neurosurgical services.
- Brain surgery: For brain tumours, hypertensive haemorrhage and trauma.
- Spine surgery: For generative conditions and trauma.
- Peripheral nerve surgery.
Other services:
- Laboratory: Full range of services.
- Pharmacy: According to one’s needs.
- Orthopaedic appliances: (Orthotics and Prosthesis) according to
one’s needed.
- X-rays: General radiography includes upper and lower extremities, spine,
skull and plain abdomen X-rays examination.
- Physiotherapy: According to one’s needs.
- Counseling and guidance services: Offered by social workers either as per patients
needs or out of necessity.
Teaching:
As one of its major establishment objective, MOI in association with the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Science
(MUHAS) participate fully in teaching the various University program e.g.:-
- Undergraduate Medical, postgraduate and M. Med (surgery) - part of rotation.
- M. Med program on orthopaedics/ Traumatology (established in 2001).
- MSc. Program in neurosurgery (Sandwich Program).
- Students from allied Health Institute who do part of their rotations in the institute (from MUHAS/ KCMC).
- Overseas students doing their elective period rotations.
The Institute has specialists/consultants in orthopaedics/ Traumatology, neurosurgery and anaesthesiology as well as other
cadres (Nurse, Administrators, orthopaedics technologist, Medical social workers, Physiotherapist etc) who are well groomed and
teach students in both class and field work training.
Research:
Research activities cover various issues ranging from medical to social issues.
