Since its establishment in 1996, MOI has had a motto: provision of equitable, accessible, affordable quality care for all”. This is the 10th anniversary of this institute, it is my belief that MOI has lived up to this motto. Yet, I dare say that, while a lot has been achieved so far, there is still a long way to go before we have vibrant, sustainable services that are responsive to the needs of our community. In realization of this, the institute has set a strategic plan 2006/07-2011/12 which is meant to achieve the desired priorities which are; sustainable services, sustainable growth and sustainable assets. It is important for us to be the best in our businesses, but it is equally important to achieve this while setting the highest standards for our business conduct. We believe this will be achieved if we follow the institute’s objectives according to the Act for the establishment of MOI and core values. At MOI we have to build a culture whereas each of us is accountable not only for business results, but also for the development of our company culture and our shared values. We count on everyone to keep our values alive, by challenging them and living them. Although it is sometimes made difficult by our ever changing environment, we must make certain that we express our values in a manner which is acceptable.
I feel highly indebted to the a team of key institute staff who worked so hard under the guidance of the
facilitators from within the institute who worked so hard to develop this plan by reviewing; our current performance(situational
analysis),the challenges we face, what we plan to deliver, and plan where to from here.
Along these lines, they developed a mission statement, vision and core values which are meant to maintain the status MOI has.
That is , the leading institute in the provision of orthopaedic, trauma and neurosurgical care in the country and beyond. The
achievement of this, makes an enormous contribution in the Health Sector towards Tanzania Development Vision 2012.
For the first time in the history of this institute, representation of all directorates in the development of this Plan was given priority in order to make sure that individual and departmental performance match with institutional objectives. But above all, it was step towards achieving “a sense of ownership” of the plan amongst staff, as result its implementation could be easy. Moreover, this Strategic plan was presented to the Workers Council on 26th -27th January 2007, as per government directives and I am proud to say that, the Council passed the Plan for implementation.
We cannot face the challenges alone. The plan insists on co-coordinated approach by involving our partners in the delivery of equitable, accessible and affordable services. For that matter, MOI is fully committed to supporting and fostering strong working relationship with the government, ministries and the community at large.
In conclusion I would sincerely like to thank the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Utumishi, Treasury,
other ministries and departments for their commitment to MOI’s strategic achievements in past years and we would appreciate
for their support in the implementation of this Strategic Plan 2006/07-2011/12.
To MOI staff, I look forward to working in collaboration to achieve our desired objectives in order to build a viable and strong
institute in the provision of orthopaedic, trauma, and neurosurgical care.
